Frequently Asked Questions About Courses & Subsidies
Your questions, answered. From SkillsFuture Credit to course pathways, get the clarity you need to enrol with confidence.
Subsidies
Worried about course fees? Don’t be. At Heicoders, most of our students use government subsidies and credits to make their learning journey very affordable. Here’s a breakdown of the main schemes you can tap on.
General Subsidies FAQs
Are Heicoders courses subsidised?
Yes! Most of our courses are subsidised under government and union schemes such as SSG funding, SkillsFuture Credit, IBF-STS, UTAP, and PSEA. Depending on your profile, you can combine these subsidies to significantly reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
Can I use more than one subsidy at the same time?
In most cases, yes. For example, you can use SSG funding + SkillsFuture Credit, then stack UTAP or PSEA if you’re eligible. Some learners end up paying almost nothing after combining them.
Do I need to pay full fees upfront and claim back later?
It depends on the scheme:
- SSG funding & IBF-STS → subsidies are applied directly, you only pay the nett fee.
- SkillsFuture Credit & PSEA → funds are deducted directly to offset your fee (no upfront payment needed).
- UTAP → works on a reimbursement basis; you pay first, then claim after completing the course.
When is my seat for a course actually confirmed?
Your seat is only fully confirmed once you’ve completed both steps:
- Submitted your SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) claim (if you’re using it), and
- Paid your nett course fee (after subsidies/credits).
We encourage students to do this as soon as possible, because seats are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes once seats are filled.
How do I know which subsidies I qualify for?
Don’t worry if you’re not sure, this is super common. Just reach out to our team and we’ll check your eligibility and calculate your exact nett course fee.
Why do some people pay $0 nett?
It happens when learners stack multiple subsidies and credits (for example, SSG + SkillsFuture Credit + UTAP). Your final cost depends on your age, citizenship/PR status, union membership, and available credit balances.
Will Heicoders guide me through the process?
Yes! From your first enquiry until after your course ends, our team will guide you step by step on how to apply subsidies and make claims. We also share guides, reminders, and personalised support to make sure you maximise every dollar available.
SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) FAQs
What is SkillsFuture Credit?
SkillsFuture Credit is a government scheme that gives every Singaporean aged 25 and above a starting balance of $500 in personal learning credits. From time to time, the government also provides one-off top-ups to encourage continuous learning, but these are not guaranteed on a recurring basis. You can use these credits to pay for a wide range of approved training courses, including Heicoders courses.
How do I check how much SkillsFuture Credit I have?
You can log in to the MySkillsFuture portal with your Singpass to check your balance instantly. If it’s your first time, the portal will also show you past usage and any government top-ups you may have received.
Does PR have SkillsFuture Credit?
No. SkillsFuture Credit is only available to Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above. PRs and foreigners are not eligible.
How do I activate my SkillsFuture account?
There’s no separate activation needed; your account is automatically created once you turn 25. Simply log in with your Singpass at MySkillsFuture to view your credit balance and submit claims.
Can I transfer SkillsFuture Credit to cash?
No. SkillsFuture Credit cannot be converted into cash. It can only be used to offset course fees for approved training programmes. If you don’t use it, the credits will remain in your account until they expire.
What courses can I use SkillsFuture Credit for?
Good news! All Heicoders programmes are SkillsFuture Credit-eligible. That means you can use your credits on any of our courses, including:
- AI100: Python Programming & Data Visualisation
- DA100: Data Analytics with SQL & Tableau
- GA100: Generative AI for Automation & Productivity
- Heicoders Academy Nanodegrees in AI, Generative AI, Data Analytics & Software Engineering
No matter where you are in your learning journey – beginner, upskilling professional, or aiming for advanced AI roles – your SkillsFuture Credit can be applied directly to offset your fees.
By using your credits with Heicoders, you’re ensuring they go into career-relevant, employer-recognised training that pays off in the job market.
How do I claim SkillsFuture Credit for a Heicoders course?
You’ll need to submit your claim via the MySkillsFuture portal before your course starts. We’ve prepared a step-by-step guide with screenshots to make the process simple.
And if you get stuck at any point, don’t worry — just drop us a WhatsApp or give us a call. Our team will be happy to guide you through the claim so your seat is secured without stress.
When is my seat confirmed if I’m using SkillsFuture Credit?
Your seat is only fully confirmed once you’ve:
- Submitted your SkillsFuture Credit claim via the MySkillsFuture portal, and
- Paid any remaining nett course fee (after subsidies/credits).
Because seats are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, delaying your claim could mean losing your spot if the class fills up.
To avoid disappointment, we strongly encourage you to complete your claim and payment within 1–2 days of registering. If you need help, our team is always just a WhatsApp or call away, we’ll guide you through it so your seat is secured quickly.
What is the difference between SkillsFuture Credit and WSQ?
SkillsFuture Credit is a learning credit provided by the Singapore Government. Every Singaporean aged 25 and above receives a starting amount that can be used to offset fees for approved courses.
WSQ (Workforce Skills Qualifications), on the other hand, is a national certification framework. It sets out recognised standards for skills training and assessment. Many WSQ courses are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit, but not all.
If you’d like to learn more about WSQ, we’ve covered more details in our WSQ FAQs section below.
Do SkillsFuture Credits expire?
Yes, but expiry depends on the type of credit:
- Opening $500 credit (given in 2015) has no expiry.
- Top-up credits (e.g. the 2020 $500 mid-career top-up) usually come with an expiry date, often around 5 years. You can check your expiry dates directly in the MySkillsFuture portal.
Why should I use my SkillsFuture Credit with Heicoders?
Your SkillsFuture Credit is meant to support lifelong learning, so it makes sense to use it on training that builds skills employers truly value. At Heicoders, all our programmes are:
- Career-relevant → Python, Data Analytics, and Generative AI are among the most in-demand skills in Singapore today.
- Led by top practitioners → Our instructors are data scientists, engineers, and AI specialists who know exactly what employers are looking for and bring those insights straight into the classroom.
- Structured for growth → From beginner modules to advanced Nanodegrees, you can keep building skills step by step without having to start over.
When you apply your SkillsFuture Credit with Heicoders, you’re not just completing a course; you’re taking a meaningful step in your long-term career journey.
SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) Funding FAQs
What is SSG funding?
SSG (SkillsFuture Singapore) funding is a course fee subsidy applied directly to eligible training programmes.
Unlike SkillsFuture Credit (which is a personal account balance), SSG funding is not something you “claim” or “apply” yourself. Instead, once you register for an approved course, the subsidy is automatically applied, and you only pay the nett course fee.
Who is eligible for SSG funding?
- Singapore Citizens (SCs) and Permanent Residents (PRs) below 40 → up to 50% subsidy
- Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above → up to 70% subsidy
There’s no membership required. As long as you meet the age and citizenship/PR criteria and enrol in an approved course, you qualify.
What’s the difference between SSG funding and SkillsFuture Credit?
This is a common area of confusion, here’s the simple breakdown:
- SSG funding = a government subsidy applied directly to the course fee. You never see this money; you simply pay less upfront.
- SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) = your personal credits (starting at $500) that you can apply on top of the SSG-subsidised fee to further reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
Think of it this way: SSG reduces the price tag first, then SFC lets you use your personal balance to pay off part (or all) of what’s left.
Which Heicoders course is eligible for SSG funding?
Currently, our Generative AI Course for Automation and Productivity (GA100) is SSG-approved. This means you can enjoy government subsidies of up to 70% if you meet the eligibility criteria.
How does SSG funding work with Heicoders Academy’s course?
When you enrol in an SSG-approved Heicoders course, the subsidy is applied automatically, you don’t need to submit anything extra. You’ll only be invoiced for the nett course fee (after funding & credits).
Can I combine SSG funding with SkillsFuture Credit?
Yes, and this is what most of our students do. For example:
- Original course fee: $2,616
- SSG funding (70%): $1,831 subsidy
- Nett fee payable: $785
- Apply SkillsFuture Credit (say $500 balance): $285 left to pay in cash
Some learners even bring this down to $0 nett if they have enough SkillsFuture Credit.
Do I need to pay the full fee upfront and wait for reimbursement?
No. With SSG funding, you only pay the nett fee after the subsidy. There’s no reimbursement process on your end.
Do I have to complete the course to keep the subsidy?
Yes. If you withdraw midway or fail to meet the attendance/assessment requirements, you may have to refund the subsidy. This ensures learners are committed and benefit fully from the training.
Where can I learn more or check my nett fee?
You can explore the official SSG funding page, but the easiest way is to WhatsApp or give us a call. Our team can quickly calculate your nett payable fee based on your profile and credits.
NTUC UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme) FAQs
What is UTAP?
UTAP is an exclusive benefit for NTUC Union Members. It covers 50% of your unfunded course fees (capped at $500 per year, or $250 if you’re under 40), on top of other subsidies like IBF and SkillsFuture Credit.
Do I need to be an NTUC Union Member to get UTAP?
Yes, you must be an active NTUC Union Member at the time of course enrolment and when you submit your claim. If you’re not a member yet, you can sign up for NTUC membership before your course starts to enjoy UTAP benefits.
Can NTUC Union members use UTAP for Heicoders courses?
Yes! All Heicoders courses are eligible for UTAP funding. As long as you’re an NTUC Union Member, you can claim UTAP to offset your fees.
Can UTAP be applied together with SkillsFuture Credit and IBF/SSG subsidies?
Definitely! Here’s how it works:
- SSG or IBF subsidies are applied first.
- You can then use SkillsFuture Credit to offset the balance.
- After you complete your course, UTAP reimburses 50% of whatever is still left unfunded, up to your yearly cap.
This makes UTAP a powerful final layer of support to shrink your nett cost.
How does the claim process work?
UTAP works on a reimbursement basis:
- You pay the nett fee (after other subsidies/credits).
- Complete your course successfully.
- Submit your claim online via the UTAP portal.
- Receive your reimbursement directly from NTUC.
Once you complete your course, our admin team will provide you with clear step-by-step instructions to make your UTAP claim smooth and worry-free.
What happens if I forget to claim UTAP?
You’ll need to submit your claim within 6 months from the end of your course. If you miss the deadline, you won’t be able to receive the subsidy, so we’ll remind you when it’s time.
Where can I learn more?
You can check out the UTAP FAQ or read our guide to UTAP funding.
And if you’re still unsure, no worries, just drop us a WhatsApp or give us a call. Our team is always happy to walk you through it step by step.
IBF Subsidy (IBF-STS) FAQs
What is the IBF-STS subsidy?
The IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF-STS) is run by the Institute of Banking & Finance. It subsidises accredited courses aligned to the Skills Framework for Financial Services (SFwFS). If you enrol and complete the training + assessment, you enjoy 50–70% off your fees (capped at $3,000 per course).
Who is eligible?
All Singapore Citizens and PRs. You just need to complete an IBF-STS accredited course and its assessment.
How much funding can I get?
- Singaporean Citizens and PRs below 40: 50% subsidy
- Singaporean Citizens aged 40 and above: 70% subsidy
- Funding is capped at $3,000 per course.
Which Heicoders courses are eligible for IBF subsidy?
Currently, the following courses are IBF-STS recognised:
- DA100: Data Analytics with SQL & Tableau

- AI300: Deploying Machine Learning Systems to the Cloud
- SE100: Responsive Web Development
- SE200: Full-Stack Development
- Performance-Driven Digital Marketing with AI
- CS100: Cybersecurity Course for Working Professionals
How do claims work?
- Self-sponsored learners: Just pay the nett fee. After you complete the course and assessment, Heicoders submits the subsidy claim to IBF for you.
- Company-sponsored learners: Your employer submits the claim via IBF. Eligible companies include MAS-regulated Financial Institutions and SFA-certified FinTech firms.
Can I stack IBF subsidies with SkillsFuture Credit?
Yes! If the course is SkillsFuture-eligible, you can use your SkillsFuture Credit to offset your remaining balance after IBF funding.
You can contact us if you’d like more information on this.
What must I do to qualify?
Simply enrol in an IBF-STS course and complete both the training and assessment. Funding is only disbursed to the course provider upon completion.
How do I know if my course is IBF-STS recognised?
You can check the IBF Programme Finder or or simply ask our team, we’ll guide you through.
You can also read our IBF-STS article to find out more.
Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) FAQs
What is PSEA?
PSEA (Post-Secondary Education Account) is a scheme by MOE that lets you use your education savings (or your sibling’s, if they authorise) for approved training courses, so you don’t need to fork out cash upfront.
Who can use PSEA funds?
All Singapore Citizens with a PSEA account. Most Singaporeans born after 1996 will have some balance in their PSEA.
Can I use PSEA for Heicoders courses?
Yes! You can use your PSEA funds for our flagship Generative AI Course (GA100). This means you can kickstart your AI journey with little to no upfront cost, while making full use of your education savings.
Is PSEA a reimbursement scheme?
No. PSEA is not on a reimbursement basis. Instead, your funds are deducted directly by MOE to pay for approved course fees, so you don’t need to pay first and claim later.
Can I stack PSEA with other subsidies (like SkillsFuture Credit)?
Yes! You can combine your PSEA funds with SkillsFuture Credit to reduce your nett fee even further. For example, PSEA can cover part of your course fee, while SkillsFuture Credit offsets the rest.
Can I use my sibling’s PSEA funds?
Yes, if your sibling authorises it. PSEA funds can be shared within the family for approved courses.
How do I use my PSEA funds?
Just submit a PSEA form to authorise the deduction. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through the process step by step. More details here: PSEA usage guide.
Where can I get help if I’m unsure?
You can always check with MOE, but the fastest way is to drop us a WhatsApp or call us. Our team will check your eligibility, guide you on the paperwork, and make sure your PSEA is applied smoothly.
Combining Subsidies FAQs
Can I combine multiple subsidies for the same course?
Yes, and that’s exactly how many of our learners end up paying very little (or even nothing) for their course. Here’s how it typically works:
- SSG or IBF funding → applied first, based on course accreditation and your age/eligibility.
- SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) → you can use your personal credit balance to offset the remaining fees.
- PSEA → if you’re eligible, PSEA funds can also be applied directly to the fees.
- UTAP → if you’re an NTUC Union Member, you can claim 50% of the unfunded balance (reimbursed after course completion).
What’s the lowest I might pay out of pocket?
It depends on three factors:
- Funding eligibility — e.g. SCs aged 40+ enjoy higher SSG subsidies; IBF-STS provides 50–70% funding depending on profile.
- Available credits/funds — how much SkillsFuture Credit or PSEA balance you currently have.
- Memberships — only UTAP requires you to be an NTUC Union Member.
With the right combination, some learners pay only a small fraction of the full fee, and in some cases, $0 nett.
How do I find out my exact nett fee?
It’s different for everyone, but our team can calculate it for you. Just drop us a WhatsApp or call us, and we’ll help you work out your personalised course fee after all subsidies.
Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) FAQs
Since our Generative AI Course (GA100) is WSQ-accredited, many learners ask us what this means for their training and certification. Below, we’ve answered the most common questions about WSQ and how it applies to our GA100 course.
What is WSQ?
WSQ (Workforce Skills Qualifications) is Singapore’s national credentialing system developed by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). It certifies skills and competencies based on industry standards set out in the Skills Framework. Completing a WSQ course gives you a nationally recognised WSQ certificate.
What are WSQ courses?
WSQ courses are SSG-accredited programmes that award a WSQ certificate upon successful completion. They exist across multiple sectors from service excellence and workplace safety to leadership and now even Generative AI.
Does Heicoders offer any WSQ courses?
Yes! Our flagship Generative AI Course (GA100) is a WSQ-accredited programme. That means when you complete GA100, you don’t just gain practical AI skills, you also earn a nationally recognised WSQ certification, boosting your credibility with employers.
Who awards the WSQ certificate for GA100?
Your WSQ certificate is issued under SkillsFuture Singapore’s WSQ framework. While Heicoders delivers the training, the certification itself is awarded through the national WSQ system, making it formally recognised by employers across Singapore.
How do I check my WSQ certificates?
You can log in to your MySkillsFuture portal with Singpass to view your WSQ training records and certificates. Employers can also verify WSQ qualifications online.
How do I apply for a WSQ course?
For Heicoders’ Generative AI Course, you can register directly on our website. For other WSQ courses in Singapore, you can browse the Training Partners Gateway.
Is a WSQ certificate useful?
Yes, WSQ certificates are nationally recognised by employers in Singapore. Having one on your resume demonstrates you’ve met established industry training standards.
For in-demand fields like Generative AI, a WSQ credential signals to employers that your skills are validated under Singapore’s national framework.
Can I use SkillsFuture Credit for WSQ courses?
Yes. WSQ courses are generally SkillsFuture Credit-eligible, including our Generative AI Course (GA100). This means you can offset your WSQ course fees using your SkillsFuture Credit balance.
What is the difference between WSQ and non-WSQ courses?
- WSQ courses → Accredited under the national WSQ framework, issue WSQ certificates, and are tightly aligned to Skills Framework standards.
- Non-WSQ courses → Still valuable and often SkillsFuture Credit-eligible, but they don’t issue WSQ certificates.
At Heicoders, only our Generative AI Course (GA100) is WSQ-accredited. However, all our programmes (Python, Data Analytics, AI Nanodegrees) remain SkillsFuture Credit-eligible, so you can still offset your course fees using your credits.
What subsidies are available for Heicoders WSQ-Accredited Generative AI Course (GA100)?
Learners enrolling in GA100 can offset a significant portion of their course fees through these subsidies and credits:
- SSG funding → up to 70% subsidy for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 21 and above
- SkillsFuture Credit → all Singaporeans aged 25+ can use their available balance to reduce the remaining fees
- PSEA funds → eligible Singaporeans can use their PSEA savings
- UTAP → NTUC Union Members can claim 50% of the unfunded fee (capped at $500/year), reimbursed after course completion
The exact nett fee you’ll pay depends on your profile (e.g. SC/PR status, age), and the credits or funds you have available. Many learners find that their out-of-pocket cost is much lower than the full course fee once subsidies are applied.
Do WSQ certificates expire?
No, WSQ certificates do not expire. Once you’ve earned a WSQ credential, it remains valid and recognised by employers.
Will I also get a Heicoders certificate of completion?
Yes. When you complete GA100, you’ll receive both:
- A Heicoders certificate of completion, and
- A WSQ certificate under SkillsFuture Singapore’s framework.
This way, you get recognition from both a national body and your training provider.
How long does it take to receive my WSQ certificate?
It usually takes a few weeks after you’ve completed the course and assessment. Once it’s ready, you’ll be notified to access it via your MySkillsFuture account.
